Church of the Sun
Despite there being no deities in the Koeh’s multiverse, certain religious institutions have formed over the millennia. The most widespread of such is the elven Church of the Sun. While the church may have started out as a group of sun worshipers (no one truly knows), today the name is purely symbolic. Using allegory of their solar namesake’s warmth and light, the Church teaches peace, harmony, and the value of life. The clergy preach that the healing light of the sun can cure all mortal ills, that honesty and charity should be ways of life, given freely. Priests and priestesses of the Sun are expected to be healers, guides, and protectors of the innocent.
While the Chuch’s teachings are peaceful, approaching pacifism, members and devout followers will not hesitate to stand strong in the face of evil, even taking up arms and laying down their lives when need be to defend the innocent or preserve the greater good. The destruction of undead is of particular import to the Sun’s Faithful, who see such creatures as twisted mockeries of life. The purposeful desecration of dead bodies laid to rest is considered the gravest of sins, and is almost universally met with immediate action from the Church.
This devotion to “being the light that pushes back the darkness” has also led to the formation of a more militant faction of Faithful, the Knights of the Sun. These holy warriors, while still preaching nonviolence, make up the first line of defense against the forces of evil and undeath. Their mission is to protect the innocent from harm, to punish the wicked, and to heal any harm that befalls the righteous.
Both the Church and the Knighthood are also quite involved in the promotion and guidance of other faiths. Places of worship run by the Church are open to faithful of any discipline, so long as they do not promote evil or violence. It is not uncommon to see traveling priests of various faiths taking lodging in a Sun Cathedral overnight, and using the time to discuss and debate various religious ideals with each other. The Knights of the Sun, as well, take an active role in mentoring smaller knighthoods. In the elven capitol of Vallinde, they oversee several other orders, providing direction and settling disputes when necessary, providing some much needed cohesiveness between the various crusaders.
Any divine caster may start play as a member of the Church of the Sun, or create a different religious organization that fits their beliefs
